Our blended learning approach combines online and in-person training, with hands-on support from tutors. The final three months focus on preparation for the End Point Assessment.

Course Modules

Module 1
Health, Safety & Risk Management

In this module the apprentice will learn how to lead a safety-first culture and manage real-world lab risks. They’ll explore regulations like HSE, COSHH and MHRA, and use investigative tools to analyse incidents. AI and sustainability practices will be introduced to help predict and prevent future risks.

Module 2
Project & Resource Management

In this module the apprentice will learn how to plan, schedule, and manage lab projects effectively. They’ll explore resource allocation, time management, and collaborative working. This module builds the skills to deliver lab outcomes on time and on budget.

Module 3
Leadership, People & Team Management

In this module the apprentice will explore what it means to lead in a lab environment. They’ll develop skills in team management, mentoring, conflict resolution, and feedback. AI-driven coaching tools will support their growth as scientific leaders.

Module 4
Lean & Six Sigma

In this module, apprentices are introduced to Lean and Six Sigma principles, gaining practical tools to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality in
laboratory environments. They’ll explore structured problem-solving methods such as process mapping, root cause analysis, and the DMAIC framework, building continuous improvement skills they can apply directly in the workplace.

Module 5
Operational Excellence in Laboratory Environments

In this module the apprentice will learn how to optimise lab systems and workflows. They’ll explore lean principles, process mapping, and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.

Module 6
Scientific Data Management & Analysis

In this module the apprentice will learn how handle lab data with integrity, from collection to reporting, use tools like spreadsheets and LIMS to interpret results and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Module 7
Digital Transformation & Innovation in Lab Management

In this module the apprentice will learn how define digital transformation and explore adoption strategies, compare tools like LIMS, ELNs and automation platforms, build plans for innovation and lead digital change.

Module 8
Higher Industry Technical Module

In this module, the apprentice will gain subject-specific and industry-focused knowledge that supports the apprenticeship and develops specialist understanding relevant to their role and sector. Available options include Construction Materials, Polymer Science, Asbestos Analysis, Chemical Principles, Biological Principles,
Materials Science, and Environmental Science.

Module 9
Work-based Project & EPA Preparation

This final module prepares apprentices for their End Point Assessment. They’ll complete their work-based project, mock assessments, finalise their portfolios and practice key EPA components, including presentations and professional
discussions.
