The Challenge: Finding & Developing Specialist Talent
When you’re a leader in environmental, engineering, and technical services, you need a workforce that’s as precise, innovative, and driven as the projects you take on.
For RSK and its specialist division, Structural Soils, that meant finding and developing skilled lab technicians to handle complex geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations. With multiple departments and a rapidly evolving industry, securing the right talent was a top priority.
The Solution: A Partnership with Tiro
RSK needed apprentices who could hit the ground running. So they turned to Tiro.
Since 2021, we’ve worked together to recruit and train seven apprentices across key departments:
- Three apprentices in Structural Soils
- Two apprentices in RSK
- Two apprentices in Ian Farmer Associates
Most apprentices took on lab technician roles, mastering the hands-on technical skills needed for industry-leading testing and analysis. Two apprentices focused on business administration, helping to streamline operations and support business growth.
The Impact: Apprentices Who Make a Difference
- Apprentice Sam smashed his apprenticeship—graduating with distinction
- Every apprentice successfully completed their programme
- Sam and Alex, both Tiro Apprentices, proved their worth and were offered full-time contracts
- RSK & Structural Soils praised Tiro’s training and clear communication throughout
These apprentices didn’t just learn—they delivered real results. They’ve strengthened RSK’s workforce, brought fresh thinking, and added value from day one.
What Structural Soils says:
“Sam and Alex have both been fantastic additions to our team. Their development during their apprenticeships impressed us so much that we offered them full-time contracts. Their skills and dedication have made a real impact on the business.”
Gary Emms, Laboratory Operations Manager, Structural Soils
What RSK says:
“We have been very pleased with the apprenticeship training provided for our chemistry technician. The training has been effective, and the communication from Tiro throughout the process has been excellent, keeping us well-informed at every stage. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Tiro again for our training needs or to recommend them to others.”
Clare Skakle, Associate Director, RSK Environment Ltd
Looking Ahead: The Future of Apprenticeships at RSK
With seven skilled apprentices trained across multiple departments, Tiro has helped RSK future-proof their workforce. The success of these apprentices—many of whom have transitioned into full-time roles—proves the lasting value of structured, hands-on training.
As RSK continues to grow, one thing is clear: apprenticeships work. And when the time comes to bring in the next wave of talent, Tiro will be ready.
