I am experienced in laboratory operations professional and technical educator, with over 20 years in life sciences, including pre-clinical research and more recently in higher education. I began my career at just 17 as a technician in a busy histology lab, and through dedication and a natural affinity for laboratory techniques, I progressed to a team leader by the age of 25.
Throughout my career I have enjoyed coaching and mentoring technical teams and students, supporting their development across a broad range of scientific disciplines. After taking a step back from industry, I transitioned into education while completing a BSc Hons Open Degree. Balancing full-time work and study was challenging, but the sense of achievement was well worth it.
In my current role, I was recently recognised for innovative contributions to practical teaching and for enhancing the learner experience, an aspect of my work that I find especially rewarding. I now aim to combine my industry and academic experience to inspire and guide the next generation of laboratory technicians through apprenticeship coaching.
Outside of work, I enjoy running and fossil hunting, and can often be found exploring the outdoors with my family.
