In this role, you’ll help to support the wider company goal of enhancing client’s environmental performance and guaranteeing the safety of their people.
What it’s like being a business administrator
As a business administrator apprentice for Socotec, your goal will be to support the office manager with the day to day business operations, interacting with external partners, improving business and employee performance, negotiating contracts and analysing financial data.
It’ll be your job to assist with the smooth running of the office and greet any visitors in a professional manner. You’ll be working closely with Socotec’s lab technicians as you’ll be in charge of accurately typing up their laboratory & field testing reports. These are key pieces of data in ensuring safety standards to the clients. Other responsibilities key to your role would be managing the phones, liaising with departments as well as data entry and accounting.
Working as part of a close-knit team, you won’t be alone. You’ll be supported and guided, learning on the job, by a team of experienced office managers to gain official qualifications that’ll boost your career.

So how does the apprenticeship work?
At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives in all areas of the science and technology industry so we can’t wait to have you on board.
Over 15 months, you’ll devote 20% of your working hours towards a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Socotec, who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. The best part? You’ll be earning £12,000 a year while you learn.
Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
Tiro and Socotec’s ultimate goal is to transform you into a fully competent business administrator, ideally open to accepting a full-time, permanent position within the Socotec team. If not, your qualification will open doors elsewhere in a related field. Or you might decide to move on to a higher-level apprenticeship where available.

- Some experience of working in a customer facing role would be an advantage but not a requirement
- 4x GCSE’s at C/4, including English and Maths
