Salary: Competitive starting salary £30000 + dependent on experience and type of employment contract – to be discussed at application

About you

As a STEM Tutor specialising in Science, your role will be pivotal in supporting the development and maintaining the quality of the Youthforce training provision.

You will be a key team member in a dynamic and developing team of Practice Tutors and Knowledge Tutors, providing a consistent voice and professional advice – as well as delivering non-specialist course content as required. You will be working with employees in industry, this will include working in a variety of environments to support the delivery of Technical Apprenticeships. About the role

Working closely with the Training Manager, and in conjunction with the academic, compliance and quality teams. You will be an exceptional trainer who has the learner at the heart of everything you do. You will have an expertise in science subjects and ideally you will have come from a science related industry background. 

Your attention to detail, general rigour in everything that you undertake will be matched with high levels of organisation and planning. You will also possess a drive to communicate with clarity and simplicity in way that promotes good teamwork.


Working closely with the delivery team, Training Manager and Senior Tutor, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of learners. You will be required to work with both internal and external stakeholders ensuring the quality of the delivery and learning and be adept at proactively managing and balancing their requirements. Our programmes are designed with 2 main roles in mind:

  1. Practice Tutor: The one consistent point of contact for a cohort of learners. Delivering knowledge and skills in the workplace and embedding subject specialist knowledge. Supporting learners through the whole learning journey from start to end.
  2. Knowledge Tutor: Skilled in developing and delivering subject specialist modules to cohorts of learners. Modules are delivered remotely over a 10-week period. As a knowledge specialist you are responsible for the tracking of cohort delivery and marking of relevant assignments.

Although these roles carry distinct responsibilities they can be combined and practiced as one blended role.

Responsibilities and duties

Practice Tutor:

Practice tutors are responsible for a caseload of up to 35 learners.

Duties will include:

  • Take ownership of your learners’ journey – managing the programme of learning, accurately completing records, setting dates and deadlines, giving high quality feedback within 10 days. Also pick up on any SEND or support needs the learners may have.
  • Attendance at regular team, staff, and quality meetings
  • The development of Youthforce projects such as writing materials/worksheets/readers for new courses and qualifications.
  • Delivery of Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Functional Skills Maths, English and IAG to ensure that all provision is “learner-centric” and consistently of a high standard.
  • Support learners with SEND, neurodiversity, and other learning needs
  • Undertake CPD in line with Youthforce policy and Institute for Learning guidelines
  • Assist in the evaluation of peers through observations of teaching and learning – contributing to staff development and others CPD plans.
  • Deliver and assess knowledge, skills and behaviours as outlined in the apprenticeship standards.
  • Prepare and support learners through the EPA process.
  • Any other duties as requested by manager including participation in key projects.


Knowledge Tutor:

Knowledge tutors will hold extensive knowledge and demonstratable skills in the area of specialism. They will be responsible of the delivery, setting and marking of assignments for the specialist module/s and tracking of the progress and achievement for their cohort.

Duties will include:

  • The tracking, recording, and monitoring of your learners’ progress and development through various data platforms.
  • To deliver content through live and asynchronous sessions through the YF VLE and other digital platforms
  • The development of Youthforce projects such as writing materials/worksheets/readers for new courses and qualifications.
  • Attendance at regular team, staff, and quality meetings
  • Undertake CPD in line with Youthforce policy and Institute for Learning guidelines
  • Any other duties as requested by manager.


Role Requirements:


  • Demonstrable experience of effective communication between multiple stakeholders
  • Assessor and Internal Quality Assurance qualifications
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills – able to balance and deliver a diverse and changing workload to deadline and quality targets.
  • Enthusiastic, driven, ambitious and with a ‘can-do’ approach.
  • Relevant industry experience in a related subject area
  • Relevant subject qualifications to a minimum of level 4
  • Driving license and be willing to travel nationally.
  • Ability to manage your own time working within a flexible working policy.


  • Thorough understanding of the lifecycle journey of a learner within an apprenticeship programme – from the employer, employee, and provider perspective
  • Teaching qualification or the willingness to achieve
  • Subject relevant degree level qualification or the willingness to achieve.
