What it’s like working in this role

As part of the team, you will receive training and guidance to deliver the following:

• Maintenance of a safe working environment by complying with established laboratory procedures and active participation in H&S team activities.
• Undertaking routine testing of construction materials to ensure CEMEX customers continue to receive high quality products.
• Support the production of CEMEX special products by offering specialist on site support as part of a highly skilled and dynamic Technical team.
• Participate in R&D activities to ensure CEMEX continue to provide customers with innovative construction solutions.
• Reporting of results to the Laboratory Manager for final report production and issue in a timely manner.

The role does include an element of manual work due to the nature of the materials being worked with and there will be outdoor working.



• No prior experience required! We're open to anyone who can show an interest in construction, science, or laboratory testing


• Ideally English, Maths and Science GCSE A-C grade or equivalent (however lower grades will be considered, so don’t be put off)

Over 21 months, you’ll devote 20% of your 37.5 hours of working time towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprentice. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at CEMEX who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. The best part? You’ll be earning while you learn.

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
